How much of a strength improvement should you see from your hang clean to your full clean? Either in percentage or lbs.

Justin Wofford | 2012-12-19

Your hang clean is going to be around 80%-85% of your full clean. We program 78% for Barski cleans, which is 3 hang cleans without putting the bar down. So, depending on your experience level, around 85% is what you should be shooting for. Inexperienced lifters are often able to hang clean more than they can clean because it minimizes the chance for error be eliminating the first pull, which is a positioning pull. However, with experienced lifters we will program hang cleans anywhere from 80%-90% of their 1 RM clean depending on the cycle and rep/set schemes.
